Gerdien Wolthaus Paauw

(Born: The Netherlands, Rijnsburg, 1965) makes social photo documentaries of a clearly-linked character. The connections in her work are achieved partly by her method of working, close to and in collaboration with the people who feature in her work. They are also a result of her vision that changes are brought about through seeing with the heart. Wolthaus Paauw seeks the expressiveness of her photos in the intimacy and layers of a story.

In 2005 Gerdien Wolthaus Paauw graduated from the Photo Academy Amsterdam as a professional photographer with “Imprisoned Longing” a series on imprisoned women at the Breda Prisons.

Paauw

Paauw Photography
Paauw is the Dutch word for ‘peacock’ - the brightly coloured bird with noumerous ‘eyes’ on its tail which is a symbol of resurrection.

I chose the business name, ‘Paauw Photography,’ as a tribute to my mother Pieta Wolthaus Paauw, who died of ALS in 1995.
